1. RAJA AMPAT - PAPUA
Raja Ampat Islands is an archipelago located in the western province of Papua New Guinea in the West, precisely at the head of birds of Papua. This archipelago is a divers destination-divers who are interested in the beauty of underwater scenery.
This region save million beauty beneath the sea. Raja Ampat marine tourism is known as one of the 10 best diving in the world. This area is also known as the world's richest center of tropical natural resources.
This region has 610 islands. Four of them, namely Misool Island, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo, is the major islands. From all over the island, only 35 islands are inhabited. Islands are uninhabited and mostly not yet have a name.
The easiest way to get to Raja Ampat is to fly to Sorong via Jakarta or Singapore. Domestic travelers can also fly via Makassar or Manado.
From Jakarta or Bali: Merpati, Express Air, Batavia Air and Lion/Wings operate daily flights from Jakarta to Sorong (with stopovers in Ujung Pandang/Makassar and/or Manado)
From Singapore: Silkair operates regular flights from Singapore to Manado. From Manado to Sorong regular flights are offered by Lion Air and Merpati. It is easiest to check with a local Indonesian Travel agent or directly with the airline for the lastest domestic flights available.
From Sorong to Waisai (the capital of Raja Ampat) is only served by sea transport. Facilities available are a fast ship with a 10, 15, or 30 people capacity and its cost of about Rp. 2-3 million, Waisai can be reached within 1.5 to two hours.
2. LAKE SENTANI - PAPUA
This region is a beautifully dramatic introduction to Papua. A huge wall of vegetation called the Cyclops sits majestically above Lake Sentani and makes for a stunning backdrop to the clear waters.Lake Sentani is 70-90 meters
above sea level and is a volcanic lake.
Source water comes from 14 large and small rivers with a single river mouths, the lake’s depth is very steep. Lake Sentani offers incredible Scenery. If you visit the Lake Sentani, you will find some of Crane and the Eagles are going to grab a fish in Lake Sentani.
This area is surrounded by beautiful hills, a perfect place for fishing, swimming, canoeing, skiing, and other kinds of water sports.
The best way to see the Lake and adjacent areas is by motorised canoe. This transportation allows you uninterrupted perspectives of the area access to visit the small fishing village built on stilts over the lake. Fishermen have been plying their traditional trade here for many generations.
Every June 19-23, Lake Sentani Festival has been held in the Kalkhote tourist resort on the Sentani lakeside in Papua's provincial capital of Jayapura. With themed 'Loved, Peace, and Harmony,' tourists first see Lake Sentani Festival and then visit villages such as Tablanusu, Bukisi, and Amay Beach before proceeding to Wamena. In 2011, the Lake Sentani Festival was the fourth event since 2008.
